A Christmas Market and chance to meet Peter Rabbit™ and Paddington™ ahead of Luton’s lights switch-on are among the free festive events in Luton town centre.
Luton Business Improvement District (BID) is supporting Luton Borough Council’s new Christmas Market from Thursday 29th November – Saturday 1st December, where George Street will come alive with stalls selling festive gifts, food and drink.
The BID has also arranged an extra special treat at the lights switch-on on Saturday 1st December, where special guests Peter Rabbit™ and Paddington™ will entertain families at separate intervals from 2.30pm before appearing at the big light up at 6.15pm – all part of the BID’s efforts to add extra excitement to the Luton Borough Council run event for the third year.
Diane Quick, BID director and centre manager of The Galaxy Centre said: “The additional entertainment Luton BID organises at Christmas always results in crowds of smiling faces and we are sure that this year will be no different.
“Peter Rabbit and Paddington are popular TV characters and will create a real buzz at the lights switch-on so we are delighted to be able to continually support Luton Borough Council at this event. We are also thrilled to be involved in the new Christmas Market which will be sure to draw more visitors and shoppers into the town centre during the busy festive period.”
More free family events are planned to run every Saturday in December.

We want everyone to be able to take pride in and enjoy Luton town centre, and our free Christmas entertainment is one of the ways we aim to achieve this.”

- Saturday 8th & 22nd December – Carol Singing
Get into the festive spirit with carols on St George’s Square by the BID’s 30-foot Christmas tree. Carols will be performed by Luton Choral Society on 8th December and by The Big Hat Factory Choir on 22nd December.
- Saturday 15th December – Santa in Luton
Meet Santa, Mrs Claus, Christmas elves, stilt walkers, jugglers and dancers as they wander through Luton town centre from 11am – 4pm.
