3rd December 2018: Guest appearances from Peter Rabbit™ and Paddington™ brought added excitement and smiles to the town centre’s Christmas lights switch-on.

Luton Business Improvement District (BID) arranged for the popular children’s characters to entertain crowds during the lead-up to the annual Lighting Up Luton event on Saturday 1st December, and for them to appear at the official switch-on too.

“The buzz and excitement that Paddington and Peter Rabbit created was fantastic,” said Diane Quick, BID director and centre manager of The Galaxy Centre. “It was lovely to see so many families and friends, parents and children and even grandparents all shopping and having fun together, enjoying the best that Luton town centre has to offer.”

It is the third year the BID has supported Luton Borough Council’s lights switch-on, to complement and improve town centre festivities and to attract extra visitors, shoppers and businesses to the area. The BID also supported the council’s Christmas Market and has other festive events planned to run every Saturday until Christmas.

Diane added: “We are thrilled to have been able to work with Luton Borough Council to support their Christmas plans and entice even more people into the town centre over the busy festive period and beyond. We can’t wait for our remaining BID-funded family events, carol singing and Santa in Luton, to run as we approach Christmas.”

Other Christmas highlights being organised by Luton BID:

  • Saturday 8th & 22nd December – Carol Singing

Get into the festive spirit with carols on St George’s Square by the BID’s 30-foot Christmas tree. Carols will be performed by The Big Hat Factory Choir on 8th December and by Luton Choral Society on 22nd December.

  • Saturday 15th December – Santa in Luton

Meet Santa, Mrs Claus, Christmas elves, stilt walkers, jugglers and dancers as they wander through Luton town centre from 11am – 4pm.
