Luton BID has announced funding for the return of The Safer Luton Partnerships SOS First Aid response night-time service – strengthening safety, wellbeing and confidence in Luton Town Centre during peak night-time periods and major events throughout 2026.
The night-time service will once again provide a visible, reassuring and compassionate presence for residents, visitors and businesses. With a trusted history in Luton, the SOS service has previously delivered lifesaving interventions, first aid, emotional support and safeguarding for vulnerable individuals.
The SOS service will be directly connected to the LBAC/Luton Safe Radio Scheme, allowing for direct communication with police, CCTV teams, security staff and town centre partners. This allows the team to quickly share information, respond to emerging issues and support early intervention for those at risk of harm, antisocial behaviour or emergency situations.
By adding trained staff and a uniformed presence at key times, the service reinforces Luton BID’s commitment to a safe, attractive and welcoming town centre, while strengthening partnership working across businesses, voluntary organisations and statutory agencies.
The SOS team will operate during major cultural celebrations and high-footfall events, including St Patrick’s Day, Luton Carnival, Luton Pride, Diwali in Luton, Christmas weekends, New Year’s Eve and key World Cup match nights, with six additional nights scheduled based on local need. The mobile van format allows the team to position themselves wherever support is most needed, from busy nightlife areas to large outdoor events.
This initiative supports the ambitions of Luton 2040 and the town’s Economic Growth Strategy, while aligning with the Luton Town Centre Delivery Plan by helping to create a safer, more vibrant and welcoming town centre.
