The relocation and sprucing up of six large planters will make the town centre more attractive for visitors and workers.
Luton Business Improvement District funded the restoration of the flowerbeds as part of its commitment to improving the local environment, arranging for them to be moved during the lockdown period from their original home in Kimpton Road into key town centre areas on Station Road, Market Hill and St George’s Square.
The planters have since undergone careful repair and painting, and have been filled with topsoil, bark, flowers and shrubs.
Fergus McLardy, Luton BID project manager, said: “We are so pleased to have been able to deliver this project, despite the recent national restrictions and challenges.
“Luton BID has been funding flower displays in the town centre for six years, and we always get such a fantastic response from members of the public and businesses who tell us how much it brightens up the area in the spring and summer months. These refurbished planters will each hold around one hundred flowers and shrubs, and they are set to look really beautiful and colourful around March and April time and beyond.”
Luton BID made arrangements for the planters to be positioned, grit blasted, primed, repaired and painted with a shiny new black topcoat as part of the careful restoration.
Tulips, daffodils, lavendulan and Mexican orange blossom are some of the flowers which have been planted, ready for bloom by spring and summer 2021.
