The Mall Luton has recently been awarded a Purple Apple Merit Award for their ‘Spectacular Space Camp’ event, which took place back in the summer half-term of 2019.

Awarded by retail destination industry body Revo, The Purple Apple Marketing Awards recognise and reward effective retail destination marketing within the UK retail property sector.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, The Mall invited families to enjoy an out of this world adventure using cutting edge virtual reality.

The free event welcomed a total of 3,382 budding astronauts, seeing children explore the universe, float through space and learn about the stars and beyond.

The Mall also provided astronaut suits, allowing Luton’s very own mini Neil Armstrongs and Buzz Aldrins to dress up before being transported to outer space to meet The Mall’s very own astronomer and learn about The Solar System inside the centre’s 360° planetarium.

The daily event which took place from Saturday 27th July to Friday 9th August 2019 saw the families of Luton have the chance to hold a real-life meteorite – believed to be 4.5 billion years old! Children finished the experience on a high and alongside receiving their very own ‘Spectacular Space Camp’ certificate, many enjoyed Astronaut Ice Cream, seeing a small donation towards The Mall’s 2019 Charity of The Year – Luton Foodbank. Nearly £850 was raised for Luton Foodbank as part of the event.

Members of The Mall Monsters Friends Club also received a ceramic rocket coin bank to keep and decorate.
